Perfecting the Bar Cart | Proper Glasses to Use & Stock Up On

Tuesday, April 15, 2014
Rather than our usual Tabletop Tuesday, we thought we would switch things up a little bit and give you a taste of something else!  If you’re a frequent visitor of Pinterest or of certain blogs, you have probably seen quite a few bar carts and how to create a great set up.  They mostly show you an image and explain how the bar cart has really transformed the space it now occupies.  These assumptions are very true to form, a bar cart can really transform a small space and turn a drab corner into a fabulous place to assemble drinks and display decanters and pretty bottles.  And even though these items make a bar cart stand out, there are essential items that need to be included, by this we are talking about the proper glasses to use and stock up on.  Serving drinks in their appropriate glassware not only makes your hosting style timeless and elegant, but gives an extra something, something to the drink you are serving.  Since we are in the business of tabletop we are all about perfecting these types of things and sometimes could even be considered OCD about things like this, but that’s what makes us good at what we do!  Personally, what stands out the most on a bar cart are the glasses anyways.  So today we bring you what glasses are appropriate for certain drinks and alcohol types.

Enjoy!

Bar cart | While these main seven glasses are pretty essential to a perfect bar cart, the copper mug is a fun addition for the occasional Moscow Mule.

Old Fashion: Traditionally used to serve an Old Fashion drink or short mixed drinks, also used for serving whiskey on the rocks.  Click here for the recipe of an Old Fashion.
Martini: Used to serve chilled cocktails with an aromatic element, commonly known as the Martini.  The stem of the glass was designed to prevent temperature changes to the drink when held.  Martini recipes
Highball: A style of glass that every bar should have, typically used for mixed drinks.
Collins Glass:  Used to serve mixed drinks, more specifically the Tom Collins drink.
Wine Glasses: Used for both red and white wine.
Champagne Flute: Used to serve champagne, the long stem is similar to the martini glass so the temperature of the drink is not affected when being drunk.  Our favorite champagne, Veuve Clicquot and Dom Perignon!
Copper Mug: Specifically used to serve the Moscow Mule.  See our blog post on how to make these delightful drinks!
Shot Glass: Considered a novelty item usually used to measure liquor and is either drunk straight from the glass or poured into another glass.

All these glasses are available for rental at P.O.S.H. Couture Rentals®.

In addition to the glasses on the bar cart, there are some other essentials that will make your bar cart cute and stand out!

Friday Favorites

Friday, April 4, 2014
As if it didn’t seem like the days were flying by already, it’s crazy that April is already here.  We are gearing up for a busy season in our office and couldn’t be more excited for some exciting things that P.O.S.H.® has coming up (details to come)!  With that said, here are a few things that really caught our attention this week.

The Chanel Glass and Mirror Spring-Summer 2014 Collection.  When we got this in the mail it was only a matter of seconds before we were casually browsing through the beautifully photographed pages.  It was like we were looking through the eyes of Karl Lagerfeld himself.  Even more apparent throughout our office is the unspoken memo that Chanel is our love, if we could live and breathe by it, we would!

What we are pinning in April.  Pinterest is an important part of our creative outlet.  Recently on the blog we highlighted 9 things we are pinning for the month of April.  These images represent what we are looking forward to this month and for spring in general.

Moscow Mules and copper mugs.  We are loving our new copper mugs that we have recently received and the Moscow Mule that is essential to the mug.  This drink is sure to be a favorite among everyone, seeing that is has quite a tasty combination going on.  Invented in 1941 by John G. Martin, the Moscow Mule has been growing in popularity ever since.  There is just something about the combination that have make people come back for more each time they order a drink.  We aren’t quite sure what that little zing is, but in our opinion it’s the great copper mugs that make the drink so special.  Below is a recipe from Bon Apetit!

The Christian Louboutin lunch, as seen in Vogue.  A lunch in honor of the ‘red sole’ creator himself, Christian Louboutin, seems like it would exude glamour and of course it did!  The lunch epitomized what a spring lunch should be.  With flower crowns worn by beautiful women such as Alessandra Ambrosio and Emmy Rossum there was a secret garden essence.  The table décor was simple with red accents, only fitting to symbolize the red soled shoes, and gorgeous colorful flowers to line the center of the tables.  To perfectly describe why Louboutin was being honored, Dita Von Teese said it perfectly, “there’s just something about that flash of red sole that speaks volumes about what kind of woman you are.”

All things: outdoor entertaining.  With the warm up of weather, it’s all we can do to not be inside, entertaining outside is the perfect way to welcome spring!  Our first thought is a combination of rustic chic and garden-esqe.  Bring the indoors outside and don’t leave out anything.  There is no reason an outdoor dinner can’t have the same elegance as it would be if it was indoors.  For some more outdoor entertaining ideas, check out our ‘Earth Angel’ Pinterest board.
