Tabletop Tuesday: Velazquez at Meadows Museum

The Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University has always done a fantastic job curating exceptional exhibits in Dallas. Now, their collaboration with Madrid's famed Prado Museum has set the bar even higher for not just Texas but museums nationwide. In fact, the latest exhibit features important works from Diego Velazquez which art historians now believe to be the first portraits of Spain's King Philip IV. Take advantage of your close vicinity to SMU and see what even The Washington Post is calling "the most important exhibit devoted to Velazquez in the U.S. in more than two decades." (The exhibit will run through January.) We were honored to be a part of the Velazquez Black Tie Dinner, designed by SMU's Marin Fiske-Rankin and photographed by Tamytha Cameron Smith. Entertain: Wine and Dine

This wine dinner at Nick & Sam's has all of the makings of a great sit down soiree: great food, awesome hosts, beautiful place settings, incredible floral design, seating arrangements that encourage conversation, and inspiring artwork! Lisa and Randy's wine dinner featured a feast from Nick & Sam's Executive Chef Samir Dhurandhar, including Chilean Sea Bass, morel mushrooms, and asparagus tart (cue mouth watering now). Dr. Delphinium created the floral design around the artwork from Samuel Lynne Galleries - nothing like a festive feast in a beautiful setting!

There is something elegant and whimsical about taking tea. Maybe it's because of a summer of London fever (Queen's Jubilee/Olympics) or maybe it's in anticipation of the next season of Downton Abbey. The cultural norm tells us not to stop, but wouldn't it be nice to bring back the simplicity (and welcomed break!) of such a pleasant pastime? Tabletop Tuesday: Grace Kelly

Kimberly Sutton of Dream Events created such a glamorous table for D Weddings Fall 2012 issue. Be warned; you may feel the need to drape yourself in fur and jewels after viewing. Sutton designed the table for her ideal client - the one and only Grace Kelly. This is definitely a tablescape designed for a princess. What we like best is the throwback to Hollywood glamour with the simple yet elegant pieces. Tell us, where and with whom would you use such a setting?
