Brunching Like A P.O.S.H. Pro

Thursday, February 27, 2014
Being in Dallas makes us partial to the brunch craze that occurs every weekend.  It’s a combination of breakfast and lunch that can occur until 3pm sometimes and has been gaining popularity in the US since the 1930’s.  Brunching is no longer reserved for holidays or celebrating something, now it’s the perfect excuse to get dressed up on the weekend and head out the door to enjoy good food and good company.

Whether it’s sunny and 75 or cold and rainy, you are sure to find Dallasites dressed to the hilt and sitting around a table with friends sipping mimosas or bloody marys.  In honor of this tradition that fills restaurants every Saturday and Sunday, we bring you our P.O.S.H. guide to brunching or hosting a brunch like a true pro.

BRUNCHING IN
Going out to a restaurant and having to wait for an hour or more before you sit down is no fun, so here are some tips to hosting a brunch of your own and skipping those dreaded lines.
Being the hostess with the mostess is key!  Preparation is important so you can be more relaxed and be able to enjoy your company.
First, put together a menu with a combination of items including juice, fruit, pastries, and warm dishes.  Martha Stewart provides a plethora of recipes here to help you pick the best options!  Our favorite is this recipe for a spinach and gruyere quiche which feeds 10.

Second, set up a mimosa or bloody mary bar or both!  Give your guests options and let them mix their own drinks (making your job even easier).

Third, and our favorite part, set a table that is simple, yet chic.  We suggest using china with either a fun print or keeping it low key and simple, whichever is more your style.  Also, make sure you have enough champagne flutes for mimosas and tall glasses for bloody marys and juice.  Keep the silverware simple with just some forks, knives, and spoons and you will be set!  Lastly, decorate your table with flowers that are in season and set a table that makes it easy for your guests to converse across the table.

We love the tables below.  On the left, the bright colors make such a statement and are sure to standout to your guests.  The table features our Tangerine Round Scalloped Acrylic Charger, Standard China, Silver Beaded Glass, and Blue and White China.  The table on the right features a round Rattan Charger and Blue and White China for an elegant and simple look with beautiful purple hydrangeas.

BRUNCHING OUT
Going to brunch over the weekend is a fun and classic experience that is made even better when surrounded by a great environment and friends.  When you see hoards of people crowded outside a restaurant it’s probably because they are waiting for a coveted table at that particular restaurant.  Our best advice, get there early to get a seat!
Some of our favorite restaurants to brunch at include: Taverna, Meddlesome Moth, Del Friscos Grille, BreadWinners Café, Oddfellows, The Grape, and Sangria.  This is only a few, but Dallas has so many great restaurants that offer brunch, as well as, deals to get your Saturday or Sunday started right.  Brunch in the Big D is bigger and more delicious than ever.  Here Dallas Eater brings you a list of 13 restaurants to try this 2014!

Along with choosing the best restaurant is choosing the right outfit.  We are a fan of dressing for the weather and since it’s getting warmer out there this outfit looks so effortless yet, cute that how could we not want to wear this to brunch?  The inspiration comes from Rachel Parcell of Pink Peonies by Rach Parcell.  The colors really pop and the outfit will turn heads.  With spring right around the corner, we love the idea of bright accent colors!

Whether you’re hosting your own brunch or going out we are absolutely positive that you will want to make brunch a weekend ritual!  CHEERS!
