RTW: Wedding Attire

Thursday, March 7, 2013
When you tell Katherine you need something to wear to your next Spring wedding, expect clothes to being flying off the racks. She has an eye for everything - every fit, every style, every color. EVERYTHING. Not only do she know etiquette and age-appropriateness ("No, no...Too short, honey."), but her sense of humor and style allows her to transcend the trends so you can develop and embrace your true style. Not that you won't find a few trends on her list; fashion is supposed to embrace the fun after all. She just won't put the mother-of-the-bride in the same thing as a sweet young thing wanting to dance the night away. (Unless you are the mother-of-the-bride and you really, really wants to dance the night away; I mean, Katherine isn't one to judge. I can just hear her now: "We all love to shake a tail feather, don't we darlings?"). So, what would Katherine pick for wedding season? Quite a few beautiful dresses we'd love to add to our closet. How about you?

The Mother-of-the-Bride (or the Mrs.)

Channel your inner Tory Burch, the madame of chic style and understated glamour, for looks that fit your role for the occasion. The first two dresses are fantastically appropriate jewel tones (not taking anything away from the bride here) that are of the moment and perfect for rehearsal dinners, bridal brunches, or a daytime wedding with the third being a gorgeous gown that proves style runs in the family.

Advance Style for the Grand Dame or Matriarch of the Family

From left, The rehearsal dinner calls for Tadashi Shoji. / A picture-perfect outfit for the bridal brunch or daytime wedding, Oscar de la Renta / Evening wear for a queen, Kay Unger

Who says age matters? We do, and only to prove the young ones aren't getting to have all the fun. Just take a note from the iconic Lee Radziwill, whose jet-set life and natural elegance inspires us all just as much now as in her youth, and pull out all the stops. You are never, repeat, never too old to show up for the occasion. For rehearsal dinner, a Tadashi gown will prove you're still in the game...An Oscar de la Renta Spring-infused dress was made to make it to the bridal brunch, no question there...And the Kay Unger gown provides just enough glitz and glamour to remind everyone that when they say advanced style, it's a compliment.

The Miss
From left, A cool cut for the bridal brunch or daytime wedding, Nha Khanh / A mix of sassy and sweet, perfect for rehearsal dinner or a daytime wedding, DVF / A very Spring-inspired print for brunch or wedding, J. Mendel / Evening weddings call for a more structured look, even if the dress is short, Milly

You sweet young thing, you. Take advantage of the time where no one will look twice when you show your legs (unless you have great legs, then all the better!), and have fun with Spring's bright colors, amazing cuts, and floral prints. Most of these can be worn for any of the wedding festivities, so you'll definitely get your use out of them when you have twelve weddings in three months.

No doubt you're loving Katherine as much as us, so we'll do the POSH polite thing and share her.

Why we love her: The scene is Fort Worth has strong roots in Texas heritage but keeps a fresh look on the classics, something local planner Tami Winner embodies in her work. Personal hosting duties are kept relaxed and simple so Tami can join in on the fun. Professional hosting duties means Tami is pulling out all the stops for a truly glamorous affair to remember.

We asked Tami to answer a few questions regarding her personal and professional hosting duties. Herewith, her answers.

PERSONALLY:
ON DINNER WITH FRIENDS...  I have learned to keep it simple. If I'm stuck in the kitchen, then I am not able to enjoy my good company.
THE SECRET IS...  Focus on an inviting atmosphere. Think about who is coming over and their interests. If my guest is a foodie, then food is my main focus. If it's someone who enjoys a casual meal but loves to gather around the fire pit with a glass of wine, then I will make sure my patio is primed for entertaining and the food is simple.
A PERFECT PLAYLIST... Really depends on personal preference, so I always have Pandora ready to go. I plug in a station my guests will enjoy and let it go for the evening.
FAVORITE MOMENTS AROUND THE TABLE... Growing up, our family always ate dinner around the table. Now that I have a family of my own, I try to keep this tradition as much as our hectic schedules allow. My favorite memory, however, is of my grandmother and her Christmas china. She would always bring it out during the holidays, and I remember being so excited to see it. My mom now carries on this tradition, and I hope my daughters love it as much as I did!
MY STYLE IS... Typically very classic, but I do love presenting my take on a current look.
A GREAT HOST... Always takes into account who their guest is and their interests.
A GREAT GUEST... In my opinion, is someone who provides good company.  As a guest, I always ask what I can bring and ALWAYS offer to help tidy up!
INVITATIONS?...  It depends, but for a gathering at my house I usually do not do invitations.

PROFESSIONALLY:
THE FIRST STEP IN PLANNING FOR THE BIG DAY... Discussing the ideal wedding with the bride and groom. Both need to agree on the style and size!
THE PERKS OF HIRING A PLANNER... Well, first of all, you're going to have amazing details. A planner or designer can help create a look that is cohesive throughout the wedding and perfectly styled to suit the bride and groom.
THE BIGGEST TRENDS FOR 2013...  We all know emerald is going to be hot, and I can't wait to use it! Glitz and glam are also making a comeback, which makes me sooo happy. Glitter is one of my favorite colors!
FAVORITE COLOR COMBOS... I am always drawn to soft pinks, golds, and champagnes; it's such a timeless look that can easily make a statement with pops of black or navy.
FAVORITE POSH PRODUCTS... POSH provides the most beautiful china of anyone in this area. You cannot find another source for unique china, chargers, stemware, and flatware. If you want to make a statement on your tabletops, then POSH is definitely your place.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS...  I think I have the BEST clients ever! Honestly, we create long-lasting relationships with almost all of them, which is what I love most about my job. One of my favorite things is to receive holiday cards from past clients with their new babies or growing families.
ON THEIR BIG DAY, BRIDES SHOULD REMEMBER... To be done with all last minute details and errands before the week of their wedding. This way, they can enjoy ever minute of their wedding week...family arriving from out of town, getting pampered at the spa, and hopefully getting some sleep before the big day! If they can have a relaxed week then usually the wedding day turns out to be stress-free.
DREAM WEDDING DESTINATION... I am in love with Ireland. I would love to have a client get married there so we can plan a wedding in an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere!

THE BEST PART OF THIS JOB... Everything! This is the best job ever. I get to be a part of one of the most important moments families celebrate. I take that very seriously, and I think my clients know I am just as invested in their wedding as them. I will do everything in my power to make sure every single little detail is perfect. Once all the guests arrive, the band starts playings, the meal is served...I look at it all and say to myself, "I did this." It's a wonderful feeling!

Tabletop Tuesday: Call of the Wild

Tuesday, March 5, 2013
We love that the exotic theme of the zoo made it to the tabletop. The palm leaf centerpiece makes just as much of a statement as a bold animal print.

Today's tabletop is for the leader of the pack. Fiercely unique with an amalgam of textures (natural elements plus exquisite couture details), this tablescape designed by Tami Winn Events is a fresh take on the formal tabletop. Tami was inspired by the location - the Fort Worth Zoo, and wanted to create a fun look for the non-traditional bride or a unique event. We think she succeeded, don't you?

A POSH tabletop takes a note from the wild as well with Rattan Round Chargers, Mottahedeh Tree Collection China, Michelangelo Flatware, Vintage Carnival Glassware in Purple, and Elise Cut Crystal.

Top, The breakdown of a gorgeous place setting. We love how the jute linens compliment the natural texture of the wild and add a neutral hue to the animal print.

Behind the Veil: Jordan Payne

Monday, March 4, 2013
With Spring around the corner, we know there are plenty of bride-to-be's out there finalizing their Big Day, which is why we'd like to call this Wedding Week. A few of our Texas event and wedding friends took time out of their busy schedules to share a little bit about themselves and their planning processes, both personally and professionally, to show a planner's life behind the veil. We enjoyed their responses and know you will too. First up, Jordan Payne.

A beautiful Jordan Payne wedding at the Belo Mansion in Dallas. Read more about this wedding here. Photography by THISBEGRACE PHOTOGRAPHY.
Why we love her: She has a hand in designing everything, from the invitations to the floral arrangements. Her creativity knows no ends, which is why you've probably seen her in just about any wedding magazine you've ever picked up around these parts. She has an eye for style and detail that always makes for  beautiful events. We could spend on her website, perusing the astonishing and ornate world she creates with her events and weddings.

Click for a few of our favorite Jordan moments: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

JORDAN'S TIPS: Personally: 1. Pour the wine! 2. Play your favorite tunes. 3. Jordan and her day planner. Professionally: 4. Emerald and gold, the current cool color combo. 5.  We love the gorgeous invitations from CECI NEW YORK: COUTURE LUXURY INVITATIONS. Soft pinks and golds are a favorite for weddings. 6. Think of the unexpected with Sapphire Blue and Coral color combos.
We asked Jordan to answer a few questions regarding her personal hosting duties at home. Herewith, her answers.

PERSONALLY:
ON DINNER WITH FRIENDS... One of the greatest jobs of being invited into someone's home is getting to experience the evening exactly as they've planned it, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
THE SECRET IS... A great guest list is key to any party. Having fun, interesting attendees is sure to make for a successful evening. Great food is, of course, a staple - and it makes friends want to come back! A fabulous tabletop design is a unique way to impress your friends with your thoroughness and thoughtfulness, and it's the perfect opportunity to show off your personal taste.
A PERFECT PLAYLIST...  James Morrison's "Songs for You, Truths for Me" or Jason Mraz's "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things" are both great albums. If I have time though, I love creating a personal playlist that mixes soulful music with something R&B.
FAVORITE MOMENTS AROUND THE TABLE... Include red wine!
A GREAT HOST... Serves a great bottle of wine! It's always an extra bonus if the bottle has special meaning (i.e. a souvenir from recent travels, etc.).
A GREAT GUEST... Brings a good bottle of wine as thank you gift.
INVITATIONS?... Why not? It's not necessary, but so few things are sent via snail mail these days, and it's always a pleasant surprise to receive a letter, let alone an invitation.

PROFESSIONALLY:
THE FIRST STEP IN PLANNING FOR THE BIG DAY... Hiring a fabulous planner of course!
THE PERKS OF HIRING A PLANNER... You get access to the best in the business, from rentals and venues to food and entertainment because you know we are working with vendors we trust. Everything you've ever thought of can be brought to the next level while ensuring that everything from the decor and atmosphere of the evening is representative of you and your fiance. We just make it that much easier to turn wedding visions into realities.
THE BIGGEST TRENDS FOR 2013... We are a huge fan of the custom dance floor. Whether it's a unique color or shape, we love using this concept to attract guests to the place we hope they'll be spending most of their evening - on the dance floor!
FAVORITE COLOR COMBOS... A classic combo we can't get enough of is soft pinks and golds - it screams feminine and wedding. We are also loving unexpected color combinations like coral and sapphire blue, as well as the very current emerald and gold palettes.
FAVORITE POSH PRODUCTS... We absolutely love their unique china and glassware. POSH offers everything!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS... It is always such an honor to share in the joy of a bride seeing her reception for the first time. All our planning and prep has finally come together...there is no better reward than a bride telling us her wedding is everything she imagined and more!
THE BEST PART OF THIS JOB... Is the lasting relationships we form with clients. Being on such an important journey with our clients is special. We love seeing everything come to fruition for them on the big day. Their joy is truly infectious!
