What's Inspiring Us This Weekend

Friday, July 26, 2013

1. Our favorite tabletop collection gets inspired by award-winning costume designer and artist Tony Duquette. What?! We can hardly wait. Serving plates and a hand-painted artichoke-shaped tureen from the Tony Duquette collection by Mottahedeh. Photo credit: Geoffrey Sokol. Read all about it at Architectural Digest.
2. When we saw this #TBT on the Neiman Marcus Facebook page, it struck a chord because isn't this exactly how every person feels when they walk through the doors for the first time? “I dreamed all my life of the perfect store for women. Then I saw Neiman Marcus, and my dream came true.” – Edna Woolman Chase, former Vogue editor, 1936. (Vintage photo of the Flagship store in Downtown Dallas.) Amen.
3. We had the pleasure of brunching with the Brides of North Texas yesterday at the newly renovated (and utterly gorgeous) The Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas. We love those ladies and can't wait for their 5 year anniversary! Image via our friends at De Ma Fille Bridal
4. What are we reading and watching? We always love Net-a-porter's weekly mag The Edit, but this week they have the iconic Iman sharing her wisdom and fashion know all. Isn't she fabulous at any age? Work it, girl. Also on our list is the upcoming biopic of Jimi Hendrix entitled All Is By My Side starring Andre 3000. Our love for Jimi, classic rock 'n roll, and appreciation for all things Outkast have us more than looking forward to this much anticipated film. More details here
5. Wondering what to eat and drink this weekend? James Tidwell, beverage manager and sommelier of The Four Seasons in Dallas, shares the best summer wines to help you beat the heat over at The Daily Meal (our newest source of all foodie fun). And what else to eat but the best Chile con Queso ever? (We are in Texas, after all.) Texas Monthly shares the iconic (yes, we used iconic to describe a dip) recipe from Dallas' own Matt Martinez Jr. Yum is an understatement.
Your turn! What's inspiring you this weekend?

Weekend To Do: Spring Fling

Thursday, March 28, 2013
While you're spending time with family during the long weekend, take a cue from what we hope to see, eat, and do around Dallas. What are your family plans?

1. Cindy Sherman Untitled #119 and Untitled Film Still #21, Courtesy of artist + Metro Pictures, New York, copyright 2012. //  2. Christian Lacroix Porcelain Collection. // 3. Dallas Blooms. // 4. Gucci silk gown at Net-a-porter. // 5. La Ventan, image our own. // 6. Strike!
 1. The Cindy Sherman exhibit that began at the MoMa is ending at the Dallas Museum of Art. Cindy Sherman is well known in art circles for self portraits inhibiting the female form and all of its expressions. Put simply, she's the Meryl Streep of the art world, uncannily talented and ready to play muse to whatever character falls into her mind's eye. It's truly something to take in, and we're lucky enough to have her work visit our city. Read more at the DMA's blog, Art&Seek.
2. Christian Lacroix is adding a touch of couture to the world of tabletop. We, of course, couldn't be more thrilled. See more of this beautiful collaboration of porcelain and fashion for Maison + Objet 2013 here
3. The Dallas Blooms at the Dallas Arboretum is so good, y'all. What is already a gorgeous venue in Dallas hits the highest note of the season with a display of over 500,000 tulips that rivals any trip to Holland. This is the perfect place for family time this weekend. More info here.
4. Oh, Gucci. We love this dress for glamorous hosting duties, Spring galas, and even for of how we envision it transitioning into Fall. Get it here.
5. Hungry for serious street tacos? Look no further than La Ventana. Meso Maya's backyard taco stand is so good, we've haven't been able to go a week without their fresh tacos and street corn. It's walking distance from Klyde Park and the perfect reason to venture outside the park on your next visit.
6. America's favorite pastime is here. The Rangers aren't the only team on our radar this season. We're also looking at Jami's son Joseph Jr. He's earned bragging rights for pitching 16 strikeouts this week. We're all such proud mamas over here! Dallas Morning News.
