Weekend Checklist: Best of Both Worlds

Friday, October 19, 2012

This weekend checklist does indeed include the best of both worlds. Whether it's a contemporary line from a timeless porcelain collection, the creative high-low genius of Neiman Marcus, getting schooled on fashion and nature, or reading novels and fun magazines, we're inspired by the yin and yang of the world around us. Check it out below.

1. Tabletop = Love here at POSH, so it was exciting when Laurel showed us the latest from Anna Weatherley.  The collections are hand-painted porcelain by artisans in Hungary and have a craftmanship unlike any other. What especially caught our eye where the classic colors (sky blue, ivory, periwinkle) that took a contemporary spin with nearly graphic-like scalloped edges, perfect for the modern mixing and matching of patterns. (Images via here and here.)
2.  Equally inspiring to us is art and nature. To our delight, this weekend we'll be planning how to catch up on two forces of nature to hit Dallas. First, the one and only Garance Dore will be at Northpark on October 25th. The illustrator turned photographer turned blogger turned fashion darling (and the other half of The Sartorialist himself) promises an afternoon of giggles and fondness for all things French. Second, the long-awaited opening of Klyde Warren Park is finally here! With an opening weekend featuring The Polyphonic Spree and Owen Wilson (to name just a few), you can bet these Friends of the Park can't wait to celebrate our first downtown park set to rival any other major city. October 27-28.
3. As always, the weekend is a time to catch up on reading. We're most excited about the latest endeavor from D Magazine - D Moms! We also can't wait to see what J.K. Rowling has come up with after leaving Hogwarts for adult territory with The Casual Vacancy. (During our recent trip to Paris, we saw literally hundreds of these books being bought in both English and French.) Last but not least, an icon in every sense of the word is discussed yet again in a book destined for our coffee table - learn more about the incredible world of the late Lee McQueen and the creative world of Alexander McQueen in Love Looks Not With The Eyes
4. Leave it to Neiman Marcus to give us the best of both worlds when it comes to the high-low of fun and fashion. "A legendary partnership" with Target gives us 50 exceptionally designed (and priced) goods while their now iconic namesake Christmas Book gives us fantasy gifts to dream about for years to come. Oh, Neiman's. We do love you. The Target Lookbook is here and the NM Christmas Lookbook is here.

On Trend: Laurel's Picks

Wednesday, October 17, 2012
It's time to catch up with Laurel for her Fall picks. With a flair for ornamentation and texture, you can bet she has her finger on the pulse of cutting edge trends. She's shown you how to add jewel tones to your tabletop (see here), but now you can see how to add her favorite baroque 'n roll inspired trends. Check back later this week to see her other Fall picks and agenda. Missed Jami's? See it here and here.
1. Gold Metallic Brocade adds complexity of the line to your tabletop, perfect for the baroque look recently reintroduced by the runway, found in the inspired Dolce & Gabbana's 2012 looks. (Linen: Resource One, exclusively at POSH Couture Rentals)
2. Bronze Metallic Brocade, Black and Gold China Collection, and Onyx Glassware turn the D&G look from outfit to tabletop.
3. (From left) Baroque interiors full of excessive ornamentation and rich colors; Jessica Chastain wearing Alexander McQueen at the 2012 Oscars; Peter Paul Rubens self-portrait (1623).

Tabletop Tuesday: Fall Garden

Tuesday, October 16, 2012
This is an oldie but a goodie - a contemporary garden wedding reception at the Nasher perfect for a chilled, autumn evening. What makes this look so modern is the classic silver and gold tones used on everything from the linens to the flatware mixed with modern ghost chairs and floral arrangements. Very fitting for the Nasher, indeed. See more of this gorgeous reception on Style Me Pretty.

1. Head Table: The bridal table receives special seating and linens, all the better for guests to come and greet the newlyweds as well as for the couple to enjoy their friends and family. The perfect mod companion to this table? Kartell Louis Ghost Chairs from Resource One, exclusively at POSH Couture Rentals.
 2. Tabletop: A close up of the tabletop reveals the classic elements that make this look so timeless - Extreme Riedel glassware, Clear Glass Charger with Gold Rim, and Parisian flatware (all POSH Couture Rentals).
3. The luscious and luxurious scene: A nice touch here is the adding pashminas for guests on a chilly, autumn evening.
4. Mixed Metals: A closer look at the glass chargers and glassware.
5. Details: You can't go wrong with fabulous florals and Bell'Invito paper goods.

Moodboard: Paris, je t'aime

Thursday, October 4, 2012
Why do we love Paris so much? The whimsical and chic of lovers and travelers strikes a chord in both young and old. We are no stranger to this Parisian addiction. The feeling must be in the air because we're seeing a lot of behind-the-scenes action on photo shoots based around the idea of French love, Marie Antoinette, and of course, serious coverage from Paris Fashion Week. Over the next week, POSH Preference will be in Paris,  sharing the sights and inspiration from the city of love and lights. If you have a smartphone, be sure to follow us on Instagram (user name posh_preference) or here with your computer. In the meantime, get in the mood with one of our favorite bloggers - the adorable Garance Dore - and her Pardon My French series.

Top Row: Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Ines de al Fressange * A stylish guide to the ultra cool Ines de la Fressange. I mean, can't we all learn something from the lady who inspires Jenny Lyons and closes Karl Lagerfield's Chanel runway shoes in her fifties? /  Paris, Je t'aime * Great quote; great film. / The Louvre * Amazing art inspires everything. / Ladurée * The only sweets that matter, since 1862.
Middle Row: The Eiffel Tower * This image captures what we love best about Paris - a magical morning on a terrace built for two with the Eiffel Tower in the background. / Marie Antoinette * The ill-fated queen with great sartorial influence and a flair for phrases ("Let them eat cake.") has inspired us since childhood. Even Sofia Coppola couldn't let her be lost in history. (Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette.)
Bottom: Champagne * The only true place to partake in the bubbly! / Vintage Parisian Carnival Glassware * The perfect glassware for your inner Francophile, available at POSH Couture Rentals. / The Palace of Versailles * Need we say more?

POSH Picks: Jewel Tones

In the following weeks, we will share with you the POSH picks from our own tastemakers. The changing of seasons always plays strongly with event and wedding design. With Fall, Jami and Laurel are both strongly influenced by jewel tones, and they aren't the only ones. The runways at Tom Ford and Oscar de la Renta also revealed emerald and deep blue hues that hit a strong chord when it comes to influencing our Autumn tablescapes. Whatever you have planned, keep these color schemes on your personal moodboard.

1 - 2. Mysore Bark and Emerald Circle Satin linens from Resource One, exclusively at POSH Couture Rentals.
3. Tom Ford for Neiman Marcus, Fall 2012.
4. Perhaps the perfect mascot for a POSH Fall - the jewel toned peacock.
5. Oscar de la Renta, Fall 2012.
6 - 7. Electric Blue Circle and Prussian Blue Bark linen from Resource One, exclusively at POSH Couture Rentals.

On Trend: Jami's Fall Picks

As purveyors of tabletops, and exclusively providers of Resource One linens, we are obviously strongly influenced by fabulous linens. Jami loves the Bark linens, which range in color from Olivewood and Nutmeg to Garnett and Raisin. We love that they come in a variety of colors and maintain a luxurious texture that perfectly accessorizes any china collection. This line especially reminds us of Fall leaves and landscapes. How would you use these colors in your Fall tablesapes?
