Traditional vs. Modern

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Your personality should shine through your tabletop, especially during the holidays. Tradition and holiday hues can still be applied, but be sure that guests see a true reflection of the host where they sit. It is the most sincere and authentic gesture you can make when breaking bread with family and friends. Whatever your personal style or the interior design of your home, you can put together an exceptional tabletop for the holidays with a little help from your friends at POSH.

Traditional Tabletop
You have Mary McDonald's prints and patterns in your dining room and your own collection of Mottahedeh. How to spruce it up a little differently this year? Bring in the Versailles Silver Charger for an added layer of silver and the Parisian Flatware for just the right amount of gold. Forgo the same stemware as last year with a touch of true luxury with our Elise Cut Crystal Stemware for toasting all night long. And when dinner is finally served, look no further than our vintage silver dome platter - the presentation will definitely be worth it.

Modern Tabletop
Embrace the Art Deco theme that is taking everyone by storm. Choose luxe cut crystal with a geometric cut charger and a truly modern shape with our Artesian Flatware. Nothing says modern like a pop art throwback, which calls for a Chloe goblet in holiday hues of red and emerald green. The final touch? An immaculate clear ghost chair from Resource One. You're set for Christmas.

Going green has never been easier. From emerald (the color of the year) to celery, green accents will have everyone in a spring mood. We love a dash of this seasonal hue on tabletops for sweet June weddings or gorgeous pops of bright green for backyard gatherings with friends and family. How do you incorporate green? We'd love to see your pictures or inspiration boards. Check out our Go Green board here

Tablescape: Silver Beaded Chargers and Floral Elegance Silver Flatware pop with Green Chloe Goblets. Add Fruitwood Chiavari Chairs** and an Ivory Trellis Organza overlay from Resource One (exclusively at P.O.SH. Couture Rentals) with green bark linen, and you've got the perfect amount of Mother Nature's favorite accent color.

Setting the Table for Mother's Day

Monday, May 6, 2013
You're setting the table for the most fabulous woman in your life. She's your best friend, your hero, your biggest fan; she's your mother. (And if she isn't any of those things, then for one sweet day, do pretend!) Polish the silver and get out your finest china. Pick a pretty Spring palette and supplement your collections with accents from P.O.S.H. You're sure to have Mom singing your praises, again. {Clockwise from top left, Sevres China Collection is a precious pattern that is a must for such a significant day. / Silver tea service is perfect for brunches and lunches. Add a touch of elegance to your home buffet with our best silver tea pots and serving pieces. / Go green for Spring to jazz up a tired tabletop. A fun and fantastic mom will appreciate the change from traditional to whimsical polka dot patterns and scalloped edges. / Chloe Goblets are the perfect way to punch up your tablescapes with color.

POSH 101: Spring Refresher

Wednesday, March 27, 2013
We love the ease and playful irreverence of fun family gatherings, but we also love bringing luxury into the everyday. That means stepping up our game with more formal settings. When the family comes over this weekend, set a table for an affair to remember with the proper placement of your best china. Here's a little refresher on what goes where.
Start with the Jan Barboglio Hammered Charger, and for meal courses add the Barcelona Gold Dinner Plate, Mahogany Rose Salad Plate, and Exotic Bird Plate. Also included here, Parisian Gold Flatware, Mahogany Rose Cup + Saucer, Gold Leaf Glassware, and Chloe Goblet in Light Pink.

THE DESIGNS
Spring is all about renewal, so we liked the idea of a sturdy foundation (the Jan Barboglio Charger), with a modern print (the Mahogany Rose salad plate), and of course an exotic bird. The Exotic Bird Collection pulls from the colors you use in the rest of the setting, so you can make this as colorful as you like by adding bright floral centerpieces with oranges, reds, and purples, or add drama with jewel tones on the linens and napkins. It's so easy to tailor this look to your liking, not to mention fun!

THE PLACE SETTING
This is a more simple formal setting that will give you an idea of how to set the table for lunch or dinner. Some things to remember: Adding a bread and butter plate is easy enough, just place it to the left of the dessert spoon and fork; the cup and saucer are shown, but coffee and tea are usually served after the meal so it's not typically on the table. Tell us, do you prefer a formal setting on holidays or do you put your own spin on setting the table?

To further add to inspiration, below are four great blog posts on Spring or Easter entertaining.

From left: A mixed media inspired Easter brunch from Hostess with the Mostess, including free printables. // A simple and sweet Easter picnic, perfect for egg hunts with the kiddos from Style Me Pretty's great new foray into the entertaining world, SMP Living. // Everyone's favorite hostess, Aerin Lauder, shows you how she sets a Spring table for lunch with friends, and as usual, it's amazing. // The ease of DIY with a touch of flair from a new favorite blog, Sugar and Charm, that will have you excited to dye eggs and start baking. // Enjoy!

This or That: Holiday Tabletop

Monday, November 5, 2012
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. We're torn between a few of our favorite looks for a fabulous feast, but both feature an element from the Mottahedeh Collections. How will you set your holiday table?

Rustic Elegance (Left)
1. Bring in wintry elements like the white Chloe goblet with the classic Schott Zwiesel stemware.
2. Nothing says cozy evenings to remember better than the Mottahedeh Tree Collection.
3. Start with the classic chargers: Jan Barboglio Hammered charger or the Maple Leaf charger. (Both on holiday special!)
4. Add a touch of luxe with Christofle flatware.
(Image above also contains the Amber Martini Compote and Resource One's Mahogany Swirl Velvet Linen, exclusively at POSH.)

Traditional Elegance (Right)
5. Resource One's Gold Leather Embossed Velvet, exclusively at POSH. A favorite from the embossed velvet linens, a picture does not do this linen justice.
6. A holiday staple: The Exotic Birds Collection.
7.  Make your tabletop shimmer with Elise Cut Crystal stemware - perfect for holiday toasts.
8. The uber-luxe Dynasty 24K flatware will make guests feel like royalty.
9. You can never go wrong with the Mottahedeh Lace charger.

Now, what's for dinner? Check back to hear from Dallas' top chefs and caterers for scrumptious holiday menus.

Entertain: Halloween

Friday, October 26, 2012
Maybe it's the candy and the costumes, but Halloween seems to bring out the little kid in us. Is there anything better than a fun evening of hocus pocus with friends and kiddos? Here's to hoping you have a wonderful Halloween weekend!

Invitation by Paperless Post

The Graveyard: No, this isn't from a movie or haunted house. We've mentioned before that Halloween is Jami's favorite holiday, and her front yard proves it. She and husband Joe create a fantastic display of ghouls and graves that bring in droves of trick-or-treaters.
The Tabletop: Mix and match from these fun and festive colors. (Clockwise from top left) Green Chloe Goblet, Onyx Glassware, Amber Goblet, Tangerine Acrylic Scalloped Charger with Leopard China, Scalloped Black Charger with Black and Gold China.
The Decor: (Clockwise from left) These wine bottles turned candle holders provide a glamorous look for Halloween. The decor should be as whimsical and enchanted as possible.

Met Ball: The Red Hot Chloe

Thursday, August 2, 2012
With Fashion's Night Out just around the corner, we've been dreaming of fashion forward tablescapes. There isn't a better excuse than haute couture to play with exotic prints and bold combinations of color.

The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art thought the same thing while planning the Met Ball, otherwise known as the East Coast Oscars. After all, when you decide to throw a dinner party for fashion's finest, you have to pull out all the stops. So we weren't surprised to see a familiar addition to their fabulous crimson place setting, the Chloe goblet! Elegant aesthetics paired with bright colors make the Chloe timeless rather than trendy. We especially love the red while going into Fall. What is your favorite color of Chloe?

SPOTTED: Tony Romo and Candice Crawford

Thursday, July 26, 2012
We love a great love story, especially when it involves local Dallas sweethearts. What was perhaps one of the biggest weddings in recent Dallas history (who can forget those hoovering helicopters and all of Turtle Creek shut down?), one of our favorite Cowboys Tony Romo wed Candice Crawford  on May 28, 2011. To wish them a Happy Anniversary, Modern Luxury printed an unforgettable picture captured by Stephen Karlisch of the newly wed Mrs. Romo high-fiving guests while her doting husband looked on. Event planner Todd Fiscus helped the couple pick a traditional yet customized tabletop, complete with POSH's hand-cut crystal chargers and Chloe Goblets. Of course, no classic wedding would be complete without the Jackie O approved chiavari chair.

Elements of Design: Gold Standard

Friday, April 13, 2012

It's a phrase we often hear in work, life, and especially event planning -- the design is in the details. Shaping a soiree that lingers on the lips of guests long after they've gone home for the evening can only be accomplished by paying attention to the tiniest details. A fabulous table top is a feast for the eyes, but the magic is in the makeup. Herewith, the proper elements to make a POSH table guests won't soon forget.

The weight of 24-karat gold, shown with a modern twist on classic flatware.

The first sip (and look) isn't soon forgotten with this Gold Leaf glass.

Add a spot of leopard and gold beading for a feminine feel.

Classic White Nu Silk with black edge linens and a Black and White Regency Print runner.

Crystal wine glass with the Chloe goblet: A mixture of classic and cool.

Gold sequin mesh table linen and black velvet napkins plus the clear Louis Ghost Chair, designed by Phillipe Stark. A simple yet stunning way to sit in the lap of luxury.
