Perfecting the Bar Cart | Proper Glasses to Use & Stock Up On

Rather than our usual Tabletop Tuesday, we thought we would switch things up a little bit and give you a taste of something else!  If you’re a frequent visitor of Pinterest or of certain blogs, you have probably seen quite a few bar carts and how to create a great set up.  They mostly show you an image and explain how the bar cart has really transformed the space it now occupies.  These assumptions are very true to form, a bar cart can really transform a small space and turn a drab corner into a fabulous place to assemble drinks and display decanters and pretty bottles.  And even though these items make a bar cart stand out, there are essential items that need to be included, by this we are talking about the proper glasses to use and stock up on.  Serving drinks in their appropriate glassware not only makes your hosting style timeless and elegant, but gives an extra something, something to the drink you are serving.  Since we are in the business of tabletop we are all about perfecting these types of things and sometimes could even be considered OCD about things like this, but that’s what makes us good at what we do!  Personally, what stands out the most on a bar cart are the glasses anyways.  So today we bring you what glasses are appropriate for certain drinks and alcohol types.

Bar cart | While these main seven glasses are pretty essential to a perfect bar cart, the copper mug is a fun addition for the occasional Moscow Mule.

 

Old Fashion: Traditionally used to serve an Old Fashion drink or short mixed drinks, also used for serving whiskey on the rocks.  Click here for the recipe of an Old Fashion.

Martini: Used to serve chilled cocktails with an aromatic element, commonly known as the Martini.  The stem of the glass was designed to prevent temperature changes to the drink when held.  Martini recipes 

Highball: A style of glass that every bar should have, typically used for mixed drinks.

Collins Glass:  Used to serve mixed drinks, more specifically the Tom Collins drink.

Wine Glasses: Used for both red and white wine. 

Champagne Flute: Used to serve champagne, the long stem is similar to the martini glass so the temperature of the drink is not affected when being drunk.  Our favorite champagne, Veuve Clicquot and Dom Perignon!

Copper Mug: Specifically used to serve the Moscow Mule.  See our blog post on how to make these delightful drinks!

Shot Glass: Considered a novelty item usually used to measure liquor and is either drunk straight from the glass or poured into another glass.

POSH 101 | Vintage Glassware

For those of you who love your stemware to match perfectly--great. There is definitely a time and place for that. But for those of you jumping on the vintage bandwagon of mixing and matching not only different patterns and shapes but different eras as well, we're right there with you. This trend has taken off in the last year, and we are excited to be a part of it with the POSH Vintage line. 

After spending weekends out and about and evenings online sourcing the best vintage tablewares from antique and estate sales, you can be certain that our collection has something for everyone. From amber and vaseline goblets to pink, purple, green, red, and blue cordials, aperitifs, flutes, and tumblers, we definitely have your vintage bar covered.

A few tips and tricks we've picked up when playing with vintage glassware:
1. Limit the number of colors you use unless they are in the same color family. We love mixing pinks and purples, for example. 
2. Don't be afraid to mix up patterns. The vintage collection is picked by color but comes in an assortment of stemware, from honeycomb cut crystal patterns to swirl-cut tumblers. The more eclectic the mix, the more distinctive and sophisticated the tabletop or bar appears.
3.  Mix in your own collection. If you're like us, you have a range of goblets and stemware passed down from family members or from your wedding registry that looks lovely, but you've used them enough that you'd like to spruce up your next event with a bold collection of styles. Adding vintage to your tabletop makes everything new again.
4. Check out the latest on wedding blogs. Our favorite It Girls, from Kate Bosworth to Blake Lively have used vintage in their weddings. We are always seeing something on Style Me Pretty or Martha Stewart Weddings that inspires us.

Brunch: Brides of North Texas

We haven't met a bridal magazine we didn't like. From tips to trends, they are a source of inspiration for weddings and beyond. One of our favorites is Brides of North Texas. When you meet the women behind the brand, you immediately sense their love of all things weddings and what real ladies want for their special day. We had the opportunity to work with Brides of North Texas on their Bridal Brunch, which launched their incredible Fall 2012 issue. They worked with Meg Hayes and Julie Smith to pick out tabletop goodies from our showroom, including the Sevres Collection and Gold Scroll Glassware. Today is officially the first day of Summer. It may be tough to beat the heat down in Texas, but don't let that stop you from some serious Summer Solstice entertaining. So sit back and relax (hopefully with a fan and a cool beverage) -- we've got the goods lined up for your hostess duties whether you're poolside, lakeside or oceanfront.

Pick something colorful for your lively libations - they'll look great in your guest's hands and be a prime point on the tabletop. New to the Showroom: Blue-Green Glassware

Is the Texas heat already getting to us, or is it the latest edition to our showroom that has us dreaming of the next seaside getaway? Whatever the reason, we are loving the blue-green glassware that just came in today! The detail alone makes us swoon, and there has never been an easier way to add something blue to your wedding table top. (What? That isn't a requirement? After you see these, it just might be.)
